Job titles to search for
Gulf adverts use many names for the same work. Search for all of these:
What Gulf employers look for
- Coded welding positions: many pipe jobs ask for 6G; structural work often asks for 3G/4G.
- Your processes: SMAW, GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), FCAW, and the materials you weld (carbon steel, stainless, alloy).
- Gulf or oil and gas experience, and the clients or projects you have worked on.
- Willingness to sit a welding test at the interview. Almost every Gulf employer tests welders.
Certificates and documents
- Welder qualification / coded test certificates (often to ASME Section IX or similar), with the position, process and material.
- ITI or trade certificate, if you have one.
- Experience letters from past employers.
- Passport (valid at least 6 months beyond travel, usually more).
Recruiters often want your CV and certificates together. Keep clear scans or photos of every certificate on your phone, so you can send them the same day.
CV tips
- Put your positions and processes first: "6G pipe welder, GTAW/SMAW, carbon steel and stainless".
- List clients and projects (refinery, pipeline, shutdown) with dates.
- Keep it to two pages; add a photo only if the advert asks for one.
A good first line under your name: "6G Pipe Welder (GTAW/SMAW) | 9 years, 4 in GCC refinery shutdowns". More in the Gulf CV format guide.
Apply safely
Apply only to adverts that name the agency or employer. A licensed agency may charge you at most ₹30,000 + GST, with a receipt, after you have a written offer. Check the agency's licence before you pay anything, and look for free recruitment adverts where the employer pays the fees.
Questions people ask
Do welders need a skill test for Saudi Arabia?
Yes, welders are among the trades covered by Saudi Arabia's Skill Verification Program, which includes a written and practical test. Your agency will book it in India.
What does 6G mean on a welder job advert?
It is a welding test position: a pipe fixed at 45 degrees, welded all the way round. Many pipe-welding jobs ask for a 6G certificate because it covers the hardest positions.
Will I have to take a welding test at the interview?
Usually, yes. Most Gulf employers and their agencies test welders before selecting them, even with certificates.
